50 caliber stainless steel barrel. Barrel comes as you see it: with the ramrod and scope rings. I kind of bought this barrel, used, by mistake. I was going on an Idaho elk hunt and after I bought the barrel, I found out the regulations for the unit I was hunting in only allowed primitive black powder rifles, not modern like this barrel. So, I never shot it and now I don’t need it. Being stainless steel, it’ll resist corrosion better than blue steel and with blackpowder guns, that is always a real plus. I weighed the barrel and it is 4 lbs 5 oz. With the box I’m assuming the whole package will go 5 lbs. This is an 8-inch (10-inches if you include the 2-inch choke) octagon ported barrel for a Thompson-Center Arms Contender pistol. It is chambered in 44 Magnum. The finish is a very high-gloss; it does have some minor nicks, scratches and wear. The bore looks good. Please review the pictures to see the condition of this item. It includes the choke and key/wrench as shown in the pictures. Please note: the pictures were taken in out-door lighting to try to show the condition as accurately as possible; the sky and tree-cover makes some of the irregular reflections you see in the high-gloss finish. The overall condition of the finish is good; the scratches, nicks and wear, while present, are relatively minor. Please note, the insert for holding the fore-grip in place fits loose in the dove-tail; it holds fine with screw tension; (the screw included appears to be just a retaining screw, unless someone had a very thick fore-grip installed). This one is amazingly well-mannered considering you’re burning over 50 grains of powder each time you touch one off. To be sure you’ll know there’s some recoil to it, but, it is not bad. This barrel shot well with most loads I put through it, until I got up to the 117 and 120 grain bullets, then, it got finicky. It did not like boat tail bullets at all. It showed a preference for the lightweights, up to 100 grains, which is perfect for deer anyway. Let’s talk about the Sierra 75 grain Hollow Point. These bullets clocked across the sky screens at 3007 fps!! Groups at 100 yards you can cover with a quarter. There are the usual wear marks for an Encore barrel and it does come with the front sight and a Weaver scope base.
