PLEASE NOTE THAT MY PHOTOS SHOW LOTS OF LINT AND DUST – NOT SCRATCHES OR DEFECTS IN THE FINISH UNLESS NOTED. RARE AND HARD TO FIND 16.25 375 JDJ SUPER SIXTEEN CONTENDER RIFLE BARREL – T/C THOMPSON CENTER STAINLESS STEEL – FRONT SIGHT PRESENT – REAR SIGHT PRESENT – LIGHTLY USED BEAUTIFUL HARD HITTING STAINLESS STEEL RIFLE BARREL. CHAMBERED IN THE WILDCAT 375 JDJ CARTRIDGE. 16.25 OAL STAINLESS STEEL HEAVY BULL BARREL – BORE IS SHARP AND PROMINENT. JDJ are the initials of J. Jones, president of SSK Industries, a firm specializing in producing extremely powerful handguns, often referred to as hand cannons. Here though, we have it in a legal rifle barrel – difficult to locate as it usually reserved for handgun hunting. It is capable not only of accurate and effective silhouette shooting but medium and large game hunting as well. Reportedly, even elephants have been taken with thispotent wildcat. The cartridge is based on the 444 Marlin case necked down to hold a. The 220 grain flat point bullets can be propelled as fast from the. 375 JDJ as from the. 375 Winchester big bore, making it an effective game cartridge. The 270 grain bullet can reach up to 2000 fps while three powders produced 1900 fps with the 300 grain bullet. Engineers call them tradeoffs, and the 375 JDJ has several. Who pays, and how, for such muzzle energies and velocities? First, think about ear protection unless you like muzzle blast. Next, be prepared for a bit of kick with the 375 JDJ. Jones says he personally knows several 10-11 year old girls who can handle the recoil, however. JONES AND SSK INDUSTRIES. Jones has been heavily involved with Contenders since 1969. He has hunted all six huntable continents with them, and he has developed numerous cartridges adapted to Contenders to give the greatest power level, consistent with safety and reliability, in the field. He owns and operates SSK. The 375 JDJ was really the first JDJ caliber and has taken more African big game than any other handgun caliber; yet it is an excellent deer round out to around 250 yards. Suitable 375 bullets for every purpose from prairie dogs to elephant exist. SSK hunting handguns are in exceptional use world wide. The 375 JDJ is the caliber for the serious handgun hunter. SSK is proud to present to you the finest barrels, workmanship and widest variety of calibers available. Has devoted a great deal of his life to the ballistic R & D of sporting, law enforcement and military cartridges and the firearms that handle them. Is the only individual to have hunted all six huntable continents with a handgun. During the 40s and early 50s he supplied numerous individuals with dressed rabbits in return for shotgun shells. 22s and, on occasion, some cash. Began hunting small game with a pistol at about age 13 and was taught bullet casting and reloading by a local gunsmith at about this time. In the early 60s, he and Lee Jurras developed the first true high-performance handgun ammunition for revolvers and auto-pistols which was marketed as Super Vel Ammunition. SSK Industries was founded in 1977 to manufacture and market specific products related to hunting handguns and ammunition. Custom Contender barrels chambered in JDJ calibers specifically designed for hunting purposes soon became the major product of the firm. They are still unequalled in the Contender in accuracy, combined with truly effective big game harvesting ability. Over the years better bullets and optics have simply made them better. It was decided at that time to manufacture and market only very high quality products and to keep the company small. Customer demand caused J. To get into building custom rifles which, of course, evolved into development of more cartridges and adaptation of specific rifles to them. To date the largest is a 95 caliber using bullets from 28003600 grains. The WHISPER® series of cartridges was developed as specific military, police, competition and recreational cartridges and has advanced the state of the art accuracy of sub-sonic suppressed weapons by more than 500%. Development of these systems continues as do other military and civilian projects. Thompson/Center Arms introduction of the ENCORE opened another world for development of highly efficient cartridges. Currently JDJ cartridges based on the old reliable 30-06 case are equalling or surpassing the performance of the belted magnum cases in the Encore. FROM THE PERSONAL COLLECTION OF THE LOS ANGELES COWBOY. THIS IS A SUPERB OPPORTUNITY FOR A SHOOTER OR COLLECTOR TO OBTAIN MANY RARE AND UNIQUE PARTS FROM MY COLLECTION. HISTORY OF THOMPSON CENTER FIREARMS. Thompson Center Arms was the brain child of Warren Center, a firearms engineer who was employed by Harrington & Richardson Arms Company (1871 to 1986) who history goes back to Frank Wesson, brother of Daniel B. Wesson who co-founded Smith & Wesson. Frank Wesson started a firearms manufacturing firm in 1859, sharing an early patent with Nathan Harrington. He started a brief partnership in 1871 with his nephew Gilbert Henderson Harrington, as Wesson & Harrington, until Harrington bought him out in 1874. In 1875 Harrington and another former Wesson employee, William Augustus Richardson, formed the new Harrington & Richardson Company. In 1888 the firm was incorporated as The Harrington & Richardson Arms Company. Warren Center then joined the K. Thompson Tool Company in 1965, and together, they announced Warren Center’s Contender pistol in 1967. In his basement at home, he designed an unusual single shot break action handgun with interchangeable barrels which is known today as the Contender handgun. Thompson Tool began marketing Center’s Contender pistol, the company name was changed to Thompson/Center Arms Company. This increasingly popular pistol was quickly accepted among silhouette shooters as well as the handgun hunting fraternity. Thompson Tool Company was located in Rochester, NH and decided to change their name to Thompson / Center Arms Company shortly after they began marketing their Contender handgun. Three years later in 1970, Thompson / Center Arms created the modern black powder industry, introducing Warren Center’s Hawken-styled black powder muzzle-loader rifle which was the first of an ever growing line of muzzle loading firearms. In 1996, a major fire broke out in the factory destroying all tooling and parts for three of their muzzle loading firearms lines: the Seneca rifle, the Patriot pistol, and the Scout which was one of their newer in line muzzle loaders. As a result, they were discontinued in 1997. Today, Thompson Center Arms produces a variety of quality rifles, handguns and muzzle loaders for the hunter and competitive shooter. The memory of of Warren Center’s great contribution to the development of the single shot platform lives on through The Thompson/Center Association which was formed in 1986 by a group of dedicated collectors at the behest of Thompson/Center Arms factory officials. Their goal for more than 30 years has been to document and categorize the many products of the Thompson/Center Arms Company as well as to promote the use and collecting of said items. As a group, they track and maintain records of various items that have surfaced throughout the years such as flat side and Eagle etched Contender frames as well as many of the hard to find octagonal barrel offerings.
