Thompson Center Contender 7-30 waters 23 rifle barrel NewInBox. SO HERE WE GO.. Smith and Wesson is dropping TC as a brand. I know lots of people who know many more in the TC world and Im not hearing that there is anyone fighting to take over TC. I sure hope someone picks TC up and makes it better than ever. Despite all this uncertainty Ive decided to sell the last of the two 7-30 waters barrels I bought several months ago. I hope I dont regret it but here are the details. Barrel is factory new and unfired. Its a full contoured and blued barrel chambered in likely the most potent round available for the contender. The 7-30 water was a wildcat cartridge long ago I believe, but Ive bought lots of premium factory ammo for the two pistol bbls I have in 7-30. The Federal Premium has consistently worked super well for me with unreal power from the contender and superb accuracy. I have a blued 10 pistol barrel that is not ported and I have a SS 12 barrel that has the nice arrestior or muzzle brake on it. There is very little difference in length between the two bbl bc the muzzle brake is well over an inch long and they are 10 and 12. My 10 G2 contender with no muzzle brake kicks as bad or maybe worse than my encore pistol in. While its likely that my encore pistol weighs 3 times as much as the contender 10 setup, the recoil is among the most harsh Ive ever experienced. The 12 hunter bbl in 7-30 waters with the muzzle brake is an absolute joy to shoot with recoil I would compare to a non ported 14. 223 barrel if that much. Both pistol bbls are super accurate and I enjoy them both. My point is that this round is outstanding coming from the contender which to me is far more easy to carry into the woods than the much larger encore pistols. While I never fired either of the 2 7-30 rifle barrels I do NOT think they will be hard kickers being full contour and requiring optic mounting. I noticed that we went nearly 5 months without ever seeing any factory new 7-30 barrels being produced. I got these from a big sporting goods store that must have set them back and released them to us about two months ago. So, to be clear, nothing Thompson Center is being made now and it wont be until someone buys the company. DONT LET THIS BARREL GET AWAY! I believe the 7-30 waters which is a 7mm bullet with a diameter of. 284 of an inch and set in a necked down 30-30 Case is quite capable of humanely taking deer sized game out to 250 yards when fired from a 23 barrel like this one. Aside from the outstanding contender wildcat cartridges developed by the great snd one and only JD Jones, I dont feel I can say that about any of the other factory rounds available for the contender.
